METHOD

Natural Family Planning (NFP) is also known as the Fertility Awareness
Method.

This is a method that does NOT use any drugs or devices. This method
can be used to prevent pregnancy or to target most fertile times to achieve
pregnancy. This method works by knowing oneself (knowledge of self )
and predicting your bodies ovulation window.

You are empowered to utilize the following options synergistically to achieve your desired outcome. If choosing this method it is important to consider the +/-‘s.

NFP METHODS

CALENDAR CALCULATIONS

Chart your Menstrual Cycle monthly to
predict ovulation
-Or-
Download a period tracker app to assist in
solidifying your pattern and to help better
estimate ovulation.

-Or-

Note: Calendar method tracks past cycles and is only a guide. Menstruation can change from month to month. Therefore, pair this option with one of the following for most optimal outcomes.

BASAL BODY TEMPERATURE CHARTING

Basal body temperature charting mandates
the use of a basal body thermometer. This
special thermometer recognizes small
changes in your temperature.

CERVICAL MUCUS MONITORING

The consistency of your cervical mucus changes during the menstrual cycle. In the average cycle, after a 5-day menstrual ow, there are about 3 to 4 dry days.
The mucus wetness increases daily, lasting approximately 9 days until the wettest day. Your mucus is easily recognized at this point. It should be slippery, clear, stretchy, and look like egg whites. It can be dicult to conceive without this “egg white” cervical mucus.
Ovulation generally occurs within 1-2 days of your peak day of stretchy mucus. In order to use the cervical mucus method to identify your ovulation, follow the steps noted.

Collect the mucus from the vaginal opening with your fingers by wiping them from front to back.

Record it daily on your fertility calendar by making note of the color (yellow, white, clear, or cloudy), the consistency (thick, sticky, or stretchy) and the feel (dry, sticky, lotion-like, wet,
slippery, or stretchy).

Ovulation usually occurs within 1-2 days of when your mucus is clearest, slippery, and most stretchy, if not on the peak day itself.

OVULATION PREDICTOR KIT

A kit can be purchased over the counter that will aid in one knowing when they are actually ovulating so that they can better time intercourse.

Ovulation test strips are urine-based tests that you use at home to detect ovulation.

Ovulation test kits comes with several tests
strips (narrow thin papers), or they may look
more like pregnancy test sticks. You either pee
on the extended tip of the pregnancy-test-like
version, or you pee in a cup and then carefully
dip the test strip into your urine.

Using ovulation strips can help you time sex for
pregnancy. When you get a positive result on the
test, you should have sex every day for the next
two or three days

+ PROS INCLUDE

• Realtively easy to use
• Tells you when ovualtions is approaching
• Does not need to be used right when you
wake up
• More comfortable alternative than checking
for cervical mucus

- CONS INCLUDE

• Can get expensive
• Difficulty of reading a positive test result
• May not work well for women with PCOS
• May yield false positives
• Can’t always conrm when ovulation will
happen
